Here’s my pre-Camino to-do list. Completed items are struck-through. 

December 2022

  • Make preliminary arrangements with employer
  • Get a guidebook
  • Download app(s) and set-up accounts
  • Make a gear list
  • Build a budget
  • Prepare a tentative travel itinerary
  • Get foot surgery
  • Develop plan for daily disposable contact lenses (don’t want to carry >90 lenses on day one)

January/February 2023

  • Implement training plan (pre-recovery from foot surgery)
  • Begin acquiring gear
  • Plan for cell phone
  • Book outgoing travel
  • Buy travel insurance
  • Complete out-of-office arrangements with employer

March/April 2023

  • Start breaking in new shoes (when foot is ready)
  • Implement training plan (post-recovery from foot surgery)
  • Reserve beds in St. Jean Pied de Port and Roncesvalles (two months in advance)
  • Finish acquiring gear
  • Implement bill-paying arrangements (auto-pay everything possible)
  • Update finances, insurance, and other critical records for M (spouse)

May/June 2023 (during my Camino)

  • Get cash (upon arrival in EU)
  • Get local cell phone SIM card (upon arrival in EU)
  • Book return travel (midway through my Camino)
  • Arrange lodging for outgoing trip (midway through my Camino)
